GDrive may offer ∞ storage

It looks like Google might be offering an online storage service. The inner-net is rife with speculation about a leaked Power Point presentation describing the service. It seems like the realisation of the GDrive rumour. SMH has some info here as does Techcrunch.

Interestingly, it’s said to be offering infinite storage capacity. So that means you can store an infinite amount of content on their servers.

I just don’t get it. At a consumer level. why would you trust your personal data with Google (or anyone else)? Read my rants on Google privacy concerns here and here.

I guess the thing here is, how do you organise the worlds information without first having access to it?

I’m also guessing that it’s also going to be fairly restrictive as I would imagine many would use it to store masses of media files too.

I wonder what impact this would have on up and coming online storage offerings? I guess the big differentiator might be features, Google isn’t famous for offering rich interfaces.
