INTERNET service providers (ISPs) will be forced to block violent and pornographic material before it reaches home computers if Labor wins the next federal election.
Under the policy, announced by Opposition Leader Kim Beazley, international websites would be banned by the Australian Communications and Media Authority if they contained graphic sexual or violent material, rated R or higher.
What are they thinking? Do they honestly think they’re protecting anyone? Smells like nothing more than a political move to me.
Where do I sign up to censor things that I disapprove of for the rest of Australia?
And what constitutes an R rated site anyway? What body rates these sites? What is Delicate Genius Blog rated?

Vincenze, I don’t know if you are doing it on purpose but your arguments don’t actually support what I assume is your position. Instead of continually cutting and pasting my words (I know what I said) you should really try and show that your postition makes at least the smallest bit of sense.
So when a guy gets a ‘hard on’ I gather what you are saying is that there is no choice but to fulfill that urge? What a load of rubbish! We actually have a word for people that do that, it’s called rape. Yet is it rape when your dog jumps over the back fence and mates with the one down the street, no. Why? Because animals run on instinct. A man or woman may get a sexual urge but they can always CHOOSE how to respond to that. There are millions of men and women who will choose (or maybe through necessity) to live healthy normal lives not in a sexual relationship. I mean what would you do if your wife was away and you had a sexual urge? You can choose to act like an animal and find the first woman you could or you could rise above that and use your rationality to reason out why you should not fulfil that urge at that time. That is the difference.
And the answer to your second question is yes, you do CHOOSE to fall in love. It may feel like it was all meant to be but at some point you decide to share your emotions and who you are with another person. You CHOOSE to commit to that person over the million other attractive women that will no doubt come along.
I really am surprised at your responses…is this really such a novel concept for you? You haven’t shown one little bit that animals and humans are the same. But if you think of something else, do share.

They should be banned. What is it with these dumb ho’s, walking around with their fat asses & guts hanging out, in a pair of ugg boots at Coles when its frigging 25 degrees! These people are freaks and should be put away. And while at it, we should bury the ugg boot forever. If people can’t recognise an item of clothing that should only be worn within ones own household. Fuck me. What is the world coming to.
There’s a visitor to this blog, a commenter on this post in fact, who dons these Ugg Boots that you speak of.
The sad thing is, the Uggs are the best looking shoes in their collection.

If you read what I posted earlier I already said that humans were LIKE animals but were much more because they had reason and will. Just because something is like something doesn’t make it the same.

I’m here to tell you that when I pass an Ugg boot wearer in public I make a point of a comment, usually to the person I am with but always loud enough for the wearer to know they are a fashion victim, and I’m calling in the fashion police.

They would look at home in a ski chalet surrounded by snow in the alps beside a roaring fire. And in their natural enviroment I’m quiet happy with their existance, but to suggest that they leave the chalet in anything other than a suitcase…… and they should be thrust into the fire with vigor!
I think what Vincenze was trying to say, is humans are classified as animals (at the kingdom level of Linnean classification) even though we posses higher intelligence that makes us Homo sapiens sapiens (at the sub-species level).
And Paul was trying to say that, humans do have a higher thinking capability than any other animal, and while some other species such as chimps and dolphins have been shown to have very high intelligence, overall we display the highest intelligence, and so could be considered ‘special’.
As a biological anthropologist, I would say that although humans have this higher intelligence, instincts will take over in many situations; such as with the flight or fight response where there isn’t much time to think intellectually. Or when a group of humans debate contentious issues such as pornography, religion, rape etc. It’s hard to think rationally when your emotions and instincts are at play; this thread has demonstrated that.
So to the point…
Should the government ban porn?
Our instincts may immediately tell us yes or no, but only deeper thought and consideration will bring us closer to the real answer.

‘O’ Plates
When we are learning to drive it is required that one display ‘L’ plates, to signify to other drivers that the driver of the labelled vehicle has no idea and is still learning, and we excuse them for that.
After passing the required knowledge & practical driving tests, one is then expected to display the necessary ‘P’ plates, and in doing so, makes all other drivers aware that the aforementioned vehicle will be driving erraticaly, faster than the prevailing conditions would dicate as safe, and with complete disregard for the road rules; but again we note the ‘P’ plate and make adustments to accomodate and perhaps send the occasional finger or horn to the ‘P’ plated driver.
So why don’t we have an ‘O’ plate? A plate for drivers that wear hats when in the car, a plate that would signify to the rest of us that the driver is “past it”, unaware of their surroundings or other drivers, will be proceeding at a speed slower than most babies crawl, and likely to brake, swerve or accelerate for no apparent reason? Yet just as likely to continue directly into a stationary object and then wonder why they stopped suddenly?

And yes there are plenty of animals that sacrifice food so others can eat – what an ignorant statement that was! Some (non-human) animals have social structures and the rudimentary elements of “culture”. Some make and use tools. Just how are we really different? The differences appear to only be by degree.
We may be *more than* the animals you are thinking of, but we are animals nonetheless. We aren’t even the best animal. There are animals that can run faster, swim better, jump higher, survive in extreme temperatures and pressures etc etc than the human animal can. What’s more we clearly do not “have dominion” over the animal kingdom either – If I placed you in shark-infested waters around feeding time there’s a fair chance you’d be eaten alive, despite your best efforts at ordering them away in the name of some alledged all-powerful deity who appears to be good at not paying attention when his “chosen ones” are in such situations (http://www.acctv.com.au/articledetail.asp?id=4075).

Porn by itself harms nobody, but *has the potential* to cause harm, as does your motorcar. We don’t ban motorcars because some people misuse them, nor should we ban porn. However IMHO porn is not for children, they grow up soon enough.
Has anyone mentioned lust? There’s a lot of talk about love and self-worth etc. but sex is really only about lust. You can lust after someone (real, imagery/porn or hired/prostitute), enjoy the experience and harm nobody. You don’t have to love as part of this experience (and normally dont) and this does not detract from the love you may have for another person. Sex is not about love – although it can be in some contexts.
The assumption that all prostitutes don’t enjoy sex with any of their clients is just wrong, I know this for a fact. Some have loving relationships and good “normal” careers, but do it for the lust factor and variation. There are many apparently “normal” young women who have had a dabble in this field – it is more common than many would like to imagine.
For those who haven’t come to a first-hand understanding of lust and the subtleties of psycho-sexual pleasure, and would seek to ban porn, I say to them… there are certain things you cannot learn from a book or a scripture, you can only learn them by experience – “live and let live”!
Don’t even get me started on religion – the first ever form of virtual-reality!
