Environmentally friendly entertainment (An Inconvenient Truth and Who Killed the Electric Car)

Vincenze points us to two new movies coming out that are well worth the watch.

The first, An Inconvenient Truth, a mainstream doco which follows Al Gore around as he gives his famous speech about our climate crisis (aka global warming).

Vincenze reports that it is screening in Sydney this weekend. We’re probably going to go see it so if anyone wants to join us, drop me a line.

Watch the trailer and be convinced that it’s at least worth a look.

The second flick is Who Killed the Electric Car.

Again, a mainstream doco following the demise (and hopefully the recent resurrection) of the electric powered car.

Check the trailer.

Interesting that the commercial gain of the entertainment industry can play off that of another industry all together. This is hardly a “safe” movie and I don’t think a movie like this would be released by Sony Pictures in such a mainstream fashion 15+ years ago.

Wonder what’s changed?

And while we’re on the topic, check out Daryl Hannah’s little video about Biodiesel, it’s pretty interesting.

The picture of Mt. Kilamanjaro (sp?) was a really striking constrast – probably one of the simplest and most profound that I’ve seen recently. Though I don’t live in Sydney, I’ll definitely be in line when the movie is available in Seattle. Thanks for the great preview!

The US is one of the countries that did not ratify the kyoto protocol. Al Gore signed it only symbolically but they won’t endorse it as it’ll effect the US economy. Aren’t the US elections coming up? maybe Al wants to try to be president….again…

As for the electric car, to charge it, it needs electricity, fossil fuels are used to make electricity, these produce carbon into the atmosphere..so where are we saving the environment???? unless we use nuclear power but then there’s the nuclear waste and that has to go somewhere.

    hey h…

You’re right the US reniged and from memory us Aussies did too. I don’t know much about why they even signed it in the first place, maybe it was a stunt?

Gore did say explicity in an interview that he wouldn’t run in the next election, and so what if he does, I think he’d make a great pres.

And you’re absolutely right that electricity isn’t the answer, it’s how we generate it… that’s the big deal. So wind and solar power stand as the two most environmentally friendly energy options.

ps don’t forget that funky break compression tech the Hybrids use.
