Twitter

Ok, so I’ve jumped on the bandwagon. I’ve been twittering for the past few days and I’m not sure why, but I love it.

My stream can be found here – http://twitter.com/delic8genius. Go on, be my friend.

I’ve also added a twitter badge to my sidebar.

I reckon twitter is cool for several reasons:

  • It’s simple
  • It’s a very cool way to capture stream of thought
  • It’s awesomely social
  • All the cool kids are doing it
  • There a close to a bazillion ways to twitter
  • And probably one the coolest things is that commenting on other peoples stream and posting to your own is integrated into the same process, therefore interacting with others is a seamless exercise – brilliant!!!

So, here is the dilemma. I love my moblog, it’s a great way to chronicle stuff and it’s visual. Problem is, I find myself wanting to post on both.

What to do?

  • Keep them both? – double up on effort unnecessarily
  • Ditch the moblog? – can’t see this happening
  • Integrate them? – Pull out the ol’ PHP skills and integrate my twitter stream into my moblog

I love the social-ness of twitter and reckon it would be cool to have my moblog play in the same space but can’t figure out how to get the best of both worlds.

Thoughts?

Ditch the twitter, stick with the moblog & RSS.
I mean, really, what does twitter give you or interested subscribers that the moblog doesn’t? (yes, i read your post & the twitter blog ;-)

    - I certainly don’t want SMS alerts when you are out drinking at 3am. I want to decide what I read/see, when I want to read/see it.

    - The Twitter page layout is crap

    - The visual nature of the moblog is far superior to a line of text… ever heard that saying “a picture is worth a 1000 words”

My opinion, if you really want to twitter with yourself, hone the PHP skills and integrate it into the moblog.

Agree with LD. Ditch twitter and stick with the moblog. Twitter seems like a one sentence blog.

Bout time you caught up, dude ;)

I would definitely run with the integration. No reason you can’t mash your Twitter RSS feed into your moblog

Hell, if you want to get fancy, you can mess with the API and get updates even quicker via XML or JSON

The vox populi have spoken. Twitter should die a unnatural death.

to me the distinction lies in currency – twitter post are very time sensitive but moblog entries are (potentially) interesting anytime.

Ah to have the skills like you to decide to pull out the ol php and combine two things into one.

So far I have resisted the twitter thing. I will go peek at yours though

Ahh, but alas it appears that the_ability_to_code != the_motivation_to_code

ah, I do have the motivation, I have 4 sites that run on it, two being community based, and I’d love to give the members more. :)

I think there is a time factor missing in your equation. :)
