I taught an autistic child last year and it certainly taught me a great deal about the autistic mind. I realised pretty soon that he was great at communicating things to me, but it was I who had to be receptive to what he was telling me. He didn’t tell me in the same way other children did, but soon I figured out ways to understand if something was annoying him, if he was angry, comfortable or needed a break. There is a great novel called ‘The curious incident of the dog in the night time’ by Mark Haddon. It is fictous but gives you an insight into the mind of an asperges child. Also, an even more personal and brilliant book is ‘Smiling at Shadows’ written by the mother of an autistic boy. Incredible.

    Fascinating video.

There’s a movie coming out in Dendy where Sigourney Weaver plays an autistic mother, called Snowcake.

BTW Grace, Curious Incident is one of my fave books! =)
