Left brain/right brain optical illusion

This is so freaking me out. From news.com.au earlier.

The Right Brain vs Left Brain test … do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.

Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

It’s freaking me out. I see it spin clockwise but can reverse it at will!

You?

its a trick… the image will usually change its move to counter clockwise or viceversa.. Try counting atleast 30 secs. then the image will change it move.. I’ve been fooled at first but I tried to figured it out.. Problem Solve.. hihihi

At first all I could see was clockwise. But when I stare at the knee on the standing leg, I can see her change directions. It takes a while but if you try hard enough, it will work.

Nope you’re wrong. I can her to change directions back and forth at will, and at the same time my husband will insist that she is only going in one direction.

if you download the picture (gif animation) and then open it in Adobe Fireworks you can see this animation consists of 34 states. And goes clockwise.
But… because it’s a 2D image some people may experience it as counterclockwise. I see clockwise but if i focus not directly on the image i can make it going counterclockwise. But then as soon i focus on the picture it’s back clockwise.
It’s the brain playing tricks not the image!

well when i read your comment i quite believed you so i tried it. it didnt change directions as you said but then tried to find a way to change it with my ‘mind’ and actually i think the ‘trick’ is at the shadow … when you see the shadow of the feet disappearing and appearing, there you can see it either going forward or backward…

Wrong – thanks for playing, try again.

I can do it in under 5 seconds in only half a turn and over 15 seconds after a couple rotations. The first time I saw it, it took a bit longer.

What if you can make it so that it wobbles ack and forth and doesn’t actually spin.
(I’ve seen clockwise and counter-clockwise too)

It’s the brain. If you just focus on the foot shadow. You can actually make decide which direction the foot is turning. I’ve been watching this for 10 consecutive minutes and it’s not the image.

If you blink the moment the leg swings to the side and wave your head in the reversed direction while blinking, you will drag the image to turn around the other way, hehe.

    Very amusing.

    Very amusing.

Just noticed it is also possible without blinking and moving your head. Looks like I got the swing of it.

Actually, you don’t have to move your head at all. Just focus on the extended foot when it reaches full left or right extension, and blink. With a little practice you can make her change direction continuously after only a half a rotation. Stop focusing on her foot and she’ll continue to rotate in one direction until you accidentally make her change. Works every time.

i use this to change my frame of mind, mostly it goes clockwise for me but if i start doing large calculations in my head then it turns anticlockwise as when i write a song or play guitar it goes clockwise, when depressed it’s anti clockwise and happy it’s clockwise so to stay happy i make stuff up ,so if i’m feeling down ,i check this out and if it is going anticlock then i start to use my imagination and feel right as rain in seconds, try it, really works

depends on what side of the brain you are most happy,;-)

  31. July 18th, 2010 at 12:23 | #31

I can make it change direction on every half turn by looking at it with one eye opened then the other. Anyone else is that usual or unusual?

    Wowhhh
I have no idea what is going on..
If I look at directly, then it goes right,
But if I look at it from my peripheral version, like from the side, then it goes left….
