P2P downloaders buy more music – well duh!

Michael Geist reports that:

A newly study commissioned by Industry Canada, which includes some of the most extensive surveying to date of the Canadian population on music purchasing habits, finds what many have long suspected (though CRIA has denied) -  there is a positive correlation between peer-to-peer downloading and CD purchasing.

The very detailed full report can be found here.

My thoughts? Well, duh!

Almost anyone will corroborate this anecdotally – my theroy on this has always been the same:

Those who love music, buy music, and are in constant look for great music – this may lead to downloading it from nefarious sources but still nets out to to greater expenditure on the music industry. Both directly on music and on subsidiary services from the creators.

Real pirates, well, pirate. Always have, always will. They have never been or never will be paying customers.

As I often say… downloading music will kill music just like taping music killed music ;)
